Shaping Awareness

Develop channels for making the community at large and various public and private agencies aware

of youth homelessness—its causes, issues, needs, and available services.

Community Awareness subcommittee

Work with the overall Destination: Home Awareness Team in community awareness efforts.

Framing Legislation

Research issues related to youth homelessness. Make recommendations on needed state and federal legislation,

monitor its progress and coordinate advocacy efforts.

Legislation Subcommittee

Research existing climate (including licensing, funding and other issues.) Make recommendations on needed state and federal legislation, monitor its progress and coordinate HYC advocacy efforts.

Designing Services

Catalog existing services available to homeless youth. Develop and propose plans for a drop-in center/emergency shelter

and permanent supportive housing for youth.

Services Subcommittee

Document existing services available to homeless youth and create documentation of our existing continuum of care. Develop and propose plans for the proposed drop-in center/emergency shelter and permanent supportive housing. Communicate relevant plans and information with the Commission on Homelessness’ Housing Committee.

Crafting Prevention

Identify services that affect the causes of youth homelessness, while working with the Community Awareness subcommittee

to promote awareness in these programs of their role in preventing youth homelessness.

Building Data

Determine types of information needed, gather data, and make data available to other groups working

with homeless youth.

Data Collection/Evaluation Liaison

In conjunction with the Homeless Services Council’s Data Committee, determine types of information needed and channels for including relevant data in HMIS (Hoosier Management Information System). Data gathered will be made available to other groups working on various aspects of Destination: Home strategies including youth homelessness.
