Bridges Out of Poverty training underway
Bridges Out of Poverty header
The Bridges Collaborative Group of Southern Indiana began seeing the fruit of its labor in planning and implementing the communitywide initiative "Bridges -- a community response to poverty" as spring 2007 unfolds.

The first full-day "Bridges Out of Poverty - Day 1" seminar with local community trainers was held March 21, 2007, at Ivy Tech Community College.  In attendance were nearly 100 participants from a variety of aspects of the community (social services, healthcare, judicial, law enforcement, education, government, etc.).

On April 17th, the Girls Scouts of Raintree Council and the Boys & Girls Club had close to 30 staff members who gained a better understanding of the experience of generational poverty as well as the research continuum of causes and solutions.

Additional Day 1 seminars are anticipated as the year unfolds.  The Bridges Collaborative Group now has five local community trainers to lead seminars and overviews of the curriculum.  All have been certified by aha! Process, Inc. to conduct "Bridges Out of Poverty" Day 1 and Day 2 ("Applying Bridges Concepts")trainings locally as part of the communitywide project and for their own organizations or businesses.

Anyone in the community who has attended a "Bridges Out of Poverty" seminar in any previous year or location is invited to register for and attend the upcoming Day 2 "Applying Bridges Concepts" full-day seminar featuring Phil DeVol, co-author of Bridges Out of Poverty.  The event will be Wed., May 23, 8:30 - 4:00.  Cost is $20.00 (deadline May 16). For more details, visit  www.destination-home.info/bridges.htm or email info@destination-home.info to request a flyer and registration form.

PlaySpaces moving forward
PlaySpaces block logo Two additional sites are nearly equipped with PlaySpaces.  Lucas Place and Albion Fellows Bacon Center, with support from 4C of Southern Indiana, are putting the final touches on the equipment and materials for play areas to benefit the children from birth to age five they each serve on any given day.

Trinity United Methodist Church's Trinity UMC Fund B presentationFund B has provided support for five local project representatives to attend the annual Young Children Without Homes national conference near Boston, MA.  Horizons for Homeless Children, in partnership with others, promotes this event.  Our local PlaySpaces project has been modeled in many ways after the Playspaces in the Boston area.
