Sexual Assault Volunteers

bullet

Provide crisis counseling, information, referrals, legal options, and support to rape and sexual assault victims, their families and friends in the eleven counties Albion serves.

Provide support on an on-call basis by telephone or in person at Albion, hospital emergency rooms or law enforcement agencies. Pagers are available

bullet

Commitment of 32 hours per month.  Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, 4 p.m. - 8 a.m., and 24 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday.  Each shift lasts for eight hours.

bullet

Approximately 18 hours of training is required.

Peer Advocacy Volunteers

bullet

Provide crisis counseling, information, referrals, and support to victims of domestic violence in Vanderburgh County.

bullet

Provide support on an on-call basis by telephone or in person at Albion, Evansville Hospitals, medical facilities or law enforcement agencies. Pagers are available.

bullet

Commitment of 32 hours per month.  Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday 4p.m. to 8 a.m., and 24 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday.

bullet

Volunteer advocates must live in Indiana and no more than 25 minutes from Evansville.

bullet

Approximately 18 hours of training is required, including a ride-along with the Evansville Police Department.

Legal Advocacy Volunteers

bullet

Explain legal processes and options to victims of
domestic violence living in shelter and in Vanderburgh County.

bullet

Provide emotional support and accompaniment to court
(civil or criminal proceedings), Prosecutors Office, Attorneys’ offices,
or law enforcement agencies.

bullet

Assist victims in filing protective orders.

bullet

Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

bullet

Approximately 15 hours of training is required.

Children’s Program Volunteers

bullet

Assist the Child Advocate with children’s groups, field trips, family activities, and parties.

bullet

Participate in reading stories, completing art projects and playing games.

bullet

Provide positive role model for children living in shelter.

bullet

Some childcare experience is needed.

bullet

Criminal history background check is required.

bullet

Volunteers are needed primarily during the day on weekdays and occasional evening hours.

bullet

Training hours may vary according to activity. (4-20 hours of training is required.)

Outreach Program Volunteers

Volunteers may complete on or several of the following activities in Crawford Dubois, Gibson, Harrison, Orange, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick Counties.

Provide crisis counseling, information, referrals, and support to victims of domestic violence.

bullet

Co-Facilitate women’s and children’s support groups.

bullet

Distribute posters and pamphlets throughout our service area.

bullet

Assist staff members in educational presentations in schools or other community organizations.

bullet

Provide transportation to shelter and support groups for victims in counties outside Vanderburgh County.

bullet

Volunteers are needed during the day and evening hours on weekdays and weekends.

bullet

Training hours vary according to activity.

Residential Services Volunteers

Answer crisis and business telephone lines.

bullet

Engage in crisis counseling with shelter residents.

bullet

Determine service eligibility of callers seeking shelter.

bullet

volunteers are needed during the day and evening hours on weekdays and weekends.

bullet

Training hours may vary (4-20 hrs.).

Committees -Aurora utilizes volunteers to serve on various committees such as Fund Development, Education, Board Development, Destination: Home, Strategic Planning, and Communications.

House Pin Coordinator - Aurora uses House Pins to raise awareness of homelessness and as an on-going fund raiser. The House Pin Coordinator actively looks for businesses, events and occasions to display house pins. If you are a salesperson at heart, you can help Aurora find good homes for our House Pins.

Miscellaneous assistance - Aurora needs additional hands at various times throughout the year. Tasks may include sorting donations, answering the phone, preparing mailings, special events, picking up donations, raking leaves, snow removal, etc.
