Bridges Out of Poverty - Day 2  training:

"Applying Bridges Concepts"

 

PRE-REQUISITE: Bridges Out of Poverty - Day 1-"Understanding Generational Poverty"

 

A second full-day training based on the work of

Dr. Ruby Payne, Phil DeVol, and Terie Dreussi Smith, co-authors of

Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities

 

Co-sponsored by the

Bridges Collaborative Group of Southern Indiana

& Deaconess Cross Pointe

as part of the Bridges--A Community Response to Poverty initiative

 

TRAINING SYNOPSIS

An extension of the Bridges Out of Poverty -Day 1 seminar, this second day of training expands opportunities for discussion and interaction.  Participants will register for one of two simultaneously offered tracks:

bullet

Serving People from Generational Poverty -- front-line skills for social services, businesses, government agencies, churches, ministries, etc.

bullet

Employing People from Generational Poverty -- relational skills for employers, supervisors, human resources staff, etc.

 

Language experience, cognitive issues, and barriers to change are covered in more detail, along with the skills of mediation, relationship building, and mentoring.

 

Participants also learn about using mental models to communicate effectively, and to assist clients from poverty to learn quickly, explore options, and develop future stories.  This workshop introduces strategies for changing program designs, policies, and procedures to improve outcomes.

 

Participants will need to carry the concepts learned in this session back to his/her organization in order to plan for and implement change and improve relationships with and results for people served who are in poverty.

 

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience:

A hands-on segment for applying the principles to one's agency, business, ministry, etc.

Groups from the same organization can benefit from the time spent sorting out the application together at the event.

Creating a Sustainable Community - an update of the overall, communitywide project Bridges--a Community Response to Poverty

All workshops require pre-registration. No walk-ins.

Deadlines for pre-registering are one week before the date of the workshop.

To attend Applying Bridges Concepts or Day 2, a participant must have experienced Understanding Generational Poverty or Day 1.
