"Understanding Generational Poverty"

A full-day training based on the work of

Dr. Ruby Payne, Phil DeVol, and Terie Dreussi Smith, co-authors of

Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities

Co-sponsored by the

Bridges Collaborative Group of Southern Indiana

& Deaconess Cross Pointe

as part of the Bridges--A Community Response to Poverty initiative

TRAINING SYNOPSIS

This seminar is designed for professionals and community members who serve, employ, or supervise people who experience generational poverty.

Bridges Out of Poverty

The Bridges Out of Poverty curriculum, conveyed after lunch, should enable participants to more fully understand general characteristics of generational poverty.

Seminar attendees will co-investigate a mental model of poverty, review poverty research, and analyze poverty through considering hidden rules of class, resources, family structure, and language.

Participants will gain strategies for improving outcomes with people who experience poverty and a greater understanding of oneself and others.

By attending, one gains concepts & understanding to use in one's organization or business in order to improve interaction with people who experience generational poverty.

Specific plans of action will need to be developed outside this workshop.

Reading the book Bridges Out of Poverty is suggested for additional learning and gaining resources for implementation of the concepts presented in an Understanding Generational Poverty or Day 1 seminar.
